Experience
Kathryn has more than 20 years of experience in the mental health field. She began her career in social work, caring for the chronically mentally ill, and returned to graduate school to specialize with children, adolescents and families. Kathryn completed her pre-doctoral internship at LaRabida Children’s Hospital, where she received specialized training in pediatric health psychology, children’s trauma, and autism spectrum disorders. For ten years, Kathryn worked within The Methodist Hospital’s Behavioral Medicine Department, providing assessments and therapy for children, adolescents and families, both inpatient and outpatient. Since 2004, Kathryn has focused on assessment of children with special needs, consultation and therapeutic interventions for children within the schools. She is currently employed full-time as a school psychologist for the Crown Point Community School Corporation.
Therapy Focus
Kathryn provides therapy for children, adolescents and their families. While she has experience with most types of behavioral or emotional concerns, Kathryn has particular interest in the areas of chronic illness, trauma and grief/loss. She has expertise in the area of early childhood diagnostics and intervention, including play therapy. Kathryn strives to integrate her faith and biblical teachings with her counseling approach, which tends to be cognitive-behavioral.
Activities
Kathryn and her husband Jack are members at Bethel Church in Crown Point, IN. She and Jack serve as small group leaders. In her spare time, Kathryn is likely to be found boating or cheering on her three sons at swim meets and band concerts. She also enjoys brisk walks, reading and cooking.
